Blang sign Brix & The Extricated

Brix & The Extricated’s recent signing to Blang Records at a sold out show at London's Lexington sealed the deal on their intoxicating new song-writing chemistry, alongside the release of their first single, Something To Lose. Comprised of key Fall members from its halcyon period, The Extricated bring Steve Hanley's book The Big Midweek to life. An apt if unexpected result, since it was his book launch that brought this new band together and inspired lead singer and guitarist, Brix Smith-Start to join them, return to the world of music and write her own life story so far.
Brix &The Extricated initially took ownership of classic Fall tracks they wrote as a gateway to writing explosive new material together. And there is no denying that they have found an exceptional new energy with each other now, which transcends the boundaries of age, generation and gender. Following several weeks of intense studio work with legendary producer John Reynolds, an album is now well underway and will be released later this year.
Their sound is driven by Steve Hanley's gargantuan bass riffs allied to Paul Hanley's powerhouse drumming. Steve Trafford (2004-6, bass player on Fall Heads Roll) plays sublime guitar and harmonises with Brix. Augmenting the wall of sound is Manchester blistering guitar wizard Jason Brown. Brix herself leads the line on vocals and guitar, culminating in a performance which showcases her decades of experience in music, fashion and television work. The sum is greater than its parts. To see Brix & The Extricated live is to understand that Brix was born to perform. She owns the stage, alongside a group of formidable musicians at the top of their game, whose idiosyncratic poeticism is as potent as the combination of individuals who create it.
The band play The Ritz in Manchester alongside The Membranes, Dub Sex and Evil Blizzard on April 29th. June 10th they’ll be at London’s iconic Roundhouse opening for the Wedding Present. Further dates to be announced.
Brix’s bestselling book, The Rise, The Fall and The Rise, is due to be released as a paperback on March 2nd.
